Alemu Asfaw

Dr. Alemu Asfaw Nigusie serves as the Country Manager for the Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) in Ethiopia. He received his PhD in Political Science and International Studies from Bahir Dar University on the topic “Negotiated Securitization? The nature and dynamics of state response towards refugees in Ethiopia”. He was a Guest Researcher fellow at the Nordic Africa Institute, Uppsala, Sweden (January-April 2023) and a Postdoctoral fellow at the Research Chair for Forced Displacement and Migration Studies, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (2024). His research interest and publications focus on migration and forced displacement governance (including refugees and internally displaced peoples), political economy, and identity politics. He has extensive experience of providing consultancy services to national and international organizations on issues related to migration and refugee protection.
