The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED) hosted a Data for Solutions Workshop in Mogadishu on October 23-24, 2024, to launch three significant data research products: the Durable Solutions Landscape Assessment (DSLA), the Durable Solutions Progress Survey (DSP), and the DS Data Toolkit. The workshop, attended by 60 participants from federal institutions, UN agencies, INGOs, and NNGOs, aimed to advance data-driven solutions for displacement-affected populations in Somalia.
Key sessions included the presentation and validation of the Durable Solutions Data Toolkit, which aims to address data fragmentation in Somalia. The toolkit’s structure was validated, and its content was prioritized based on an interactive survey. Capacity-building needs were also identified, focusing on technical components, analytical frameworks, and data use.
The workshop highlighted the importance of collaboration among development partners, humanitarian actors, and affected communities. It established a Data for Solutions Sub-Working Group under the broader Durable Solutions Technical Working Group to enhance data coordination, facilitate information sharing, and promote data-driven decision-making. This sub-group will play a critical role in reviewing and supporting the rollout of the toolkit and capacity-building framework.
Additionally, the workshop discussed the Durable Solutions Progress Survey (DSP), which aligns with the National Durable Solutions Strategy (NDSS) and the Solutions Pathways Action Plan. The survey’s findings and recommendations were presented, emphasizing the role of data in monitoring and prioritizing key solutions frameworks.
