Somalia Solutions Analysis 2019 – Area Based Planning

This factsheet is an extract of the 2019 solutions analysis conducted in Somalia focusing on three urban centres: Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Kismayo. The document focuses on the need for area-based and locally led approaches that use areas as the main entry point, rather than a sector, target group or population. The document presents two case studies on working towards area-based urban solutions and working together on community engagement and consultations. The document also highlights the achievements, challenges and opportunities for 2019/2020 in terms of joint planning with the government, institutionalising community action plans, developing joint area-based plans, setting standards for community consultations, linking resettlement plans with urban master plans and service delivery, increasing communication efforts with displacement-affected communities and capitalising on civil society organisations for stronger community engagement.
