This factsheet is an extract of the 2019 solutions analysis conducted in Somalia focusing on three urban centres: Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Kismayo. It is an update on the solutions analysis for Somalia, which assesses the progress and challenges of durable solutions programming for displacement-affected communities (DACs) in the country. The document identifies a set of critical success factors that are necessary for achieving collective outcomes and sustainable (re)integration of DACs. These include:

  • Area-based planning and locally led processes that involve the participation and feedback of DACs and host communities
  • Supporting group dynamics and social cohesion among different groups and addressing their perceptions and grievances
  • Expanding and strengthening coordination across different levels of government, sectors, and actors, including resilience, stabilisation, and durable solutions initiatives
  • Aligning and integrating durable solutions initiatives with national priorities, peacebuilding efforts, and data harmonisation
  • Supporting government engagement and leadership on durable solutions, especially through the Durable Solutions Unit at the federal and regional levels
  • Leveraging private sector support and public–private partnerships to fill in the gaps in public service delivery and create livelihood opportunities for DACs
